Details about our Admissions Process
Here are some more details about our admissions process.
Tours
All regularly scheduled tours have passed for this school year.
Outside of the admissions season, we will tour individual families as scheduling allows.
We host scheduled tours from November through February. These happen during the school day and are for adults only (babes in arms are welcome). Tours are a great chance to see our school and students in action, speak to the head of school, and attend a Q&A session with some of the teachers. If you are moving to the Seattle area in the future and are unable to attend a tour, please reach out via our inquiry form.
Open House
Our open house has passed for this school year.
We host an open house every year, typically in January. This happens on a weekend morning, and is open to the whole family. This is an opportunity to move through the school with your child, see our spaces, and meet the teachers. Additionally, there will be current parents and alumni students all around the building to answer questions and chat with you about their experience at KapKa.
Application
Applications for the 2025-2026 school year are due on January 16, 2025.
Applications received after the due date will be considered as space is available.
Applications are a way for us to begin to get a window into who your child is. So you can think ahead, you will be asked to provide as part of the application:
-
A sample or two of their work (for younger kids, this can be something like a drawing, or a video of a song, or pictures of a story they have made, etc.)
-
Contact information for two teacher references (for younger children, this could include a day care provider, a nanny, etc. — ideally, we are hearing from someone who has worked closely with your child on an ongoing basis, ideally in a group setting).
Children must be five years old by September 1st of the school year they are applying for.
Because of our small school and class sizes, we can often consider applications for 1st through 5th grades.
Kid Visit
Once you have visited KapKa and once your application has been submitted, we will schedule a time for your child to visit KapKa. This gives us a chance to get to know them more, as well as a chance for your child to see for themselves how KapKa feels in action.
K-1 applicants, whose applications have been received by the application deadline, will join us for one of our Kids Visit KapKa events. We will reach out to schedule these with you. They are typically on a Saturday morning in February or March. *If you are applying after these events have occurred, we will work with you to find an appropriate time for your student to visit during a school day.*
2nd-5th grade applicants will join us during a school day and join their current grade’s class for a sample half-day or full-day visit.
Financial Aid
Financial aid applications for the 2025-2026 school year are due on February 6, 2025.
Financial aid applications received after the deadline will be considered as aid funds remain.
Your family, like many of our KapKa families, may be eligible for financial aid. We always say, when in doubt, apply. We know tuition can be a stretch, even with KapKa having one of the lowest independent school tuition levels in the area.
KapKa is proud of the socioeconomic diversity of our school community, and strongly believes in advocating for families who are seeking our cooperative and independent educational model, but don’t have the means to pay full tuition.
To be considered for financial assistance, you will need to submit an application through FACTS, an organization that provides an independent, third-party assessment of a family’s ability to pay tuition costs.
NOTICE OF NONDISCRIMINATORY POLICY AS TO STUDENTS
KapKa admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin, gender identity or expression, or family structure in the administration of KapKa’s educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
