At KapKa We Honor Diversity, Challenge Inequity
At KapKa, we strive to be an antiracist and anti-bias institution. We are committed to turning an equity lens outward as well as inward to identify, address, and speak out against bias, racism, inequity, and structural oppression.
We believe diversity makes us stronger. Multiple perspectives grow our brains, deepening our experience of a situation, or our understanding of its solution. We thrive within relationships when each individual holds a sense of belonging and significance, safe to be their authentic self.
We are inclusive. We strive to create an environment in which each student, family, and staff member not only feels seen and heard, but authentically valued. This means acknowledging and celebrating each of our unique and intersecting identities, perspectives, and lived experiences. It also requires a recognition that when we come together with a greater mission and purpose, we create a more powerful whole invigorated by the sum of its parts.
We are intentional. As adults, we lead through example, listen with open hearts, reflect deeply, and grow continually.
We take action. We live in a pluralistic AND unjust world. It is our duty to teach children how to navigate it by understanding and appreciating those who differ from themselves, while also learning to stand up and ACT in the face of injustice. This is the only way for substantive and systemic change to occur. In order to best serve children and support the healthy development of identity, sense of self, place in the world, and relationship to others within it, we strive to teach children to recognize and respond to biases, inequities, structural oppression, and racism. In doing so, we also hope to inspire children to be agents of change who actively cultivate an equitable and inclusive future.
